transforming GIS data into a map is a good idea and can be proposed
along with OpenGIS support. However I still think that this zoom-search
concept applies to general data as well.

I agree. I saw that Kasun has shown an interest in implementing Zoom search. I would like to collaborate with him or anyone else who's doing Zoom search to support its implementations for GIS data.
