It works if it's empty or contains "/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock" (socket on my server). But just tried a little stupid thing: replaced the path by something not existing, and it still works, so I don't know... :)

It would be nice :)
BTW the db_stats.php3 script is a good idea.
