There (and in the doc) we could say "pmadb is a database that is used internally to hold metadata for additional features."
However it's not always a database (it can be part of a user's database).
Exactly. I'd try to avoid linking it with database, because it would mean for lot of people that you actually need a separate database. Words like infrastructure, data store or tables do not have such implications.
Furthermore pmadb is name of configuration directive, so using the name in two contexts could be confusing as well.
OK, so does "Metadata infrastructure" look good?
