Let's say I asked to create a table with 10 columns and took some time
to set all columns types, default values, index info, browser
transformation, etc via dropdowns, and then I click away: I am sorry to
lose these changes without a warning.

Personally, I think it is unnecessary and may be annoying when in a good proportion of cases user actually wants to navigate away maybe because he changed mind.

Although if it is felt to be about user interface consistency that dropdowns should be treated on par with input fields, then I am okay with it.
