Hi
we still call it "Linked-tables infrastructure", however I think this name has gotten quite non descriptive after time. Any idea for better name?

That name could indeed use a refresh.
What about: - phpMyAdmin internal data store - phpMyAdmin configuration data store
You can imagine that from your options "phpMyAdmin extended data storage" is my favourite, I'm just not sure it is clear what data storage is extended... it might be interpreted as some extra table space.

It is data about data - So metadata seems fine to me

I would suggest "phpMyAdmin metadata", however people are more and more just saying "pmadb" so I wonder if we could just officialize "pmadb"?
See http://wiki.phpmyadmin.net/pma/pmadb
There (and in the doc) we could say "pmadb is a database that is used internally to hold metadata for additional features."
However it's not always a database (it can be part of a user's database).

Exactly. I'd try to avoid linking it with database, because it would mean for lot of people that you actually need a separate database. Words like infrastructure, data store or tables do not have such implications.
Furthermore pmadb is name of configuration directive, so using the name in two contexts could be confusing as well.

OK, so does "Metadata infrastructure" look good?
Hi
As there does not seem to be any clear outcome so far, here is just summary of the proposed names:
- Additional metadata tables - phpMyAdmin extended data storage - phpMyAdmin internal data store - phpMyAdmin configuration data store - Metadata infrastructure
What can be summarized as:
[phpMyAdmin] [additional|internal|extended|configuration] [metadata|data] [infrastructure|storage]
:-)
So how about "Extended metadata infrastructure"?

I believe they sound too complicated.
"Extended metadata infrastructure" is what it is.
But maybe "phpMyAdmin configuration storage" would be better, because it is what it means. Maybe it would introduce less confusion.

I think the name should contain 'phpMyAdmin', to make clear it is a specific pma thing. I like the 'phpMyAdmin configuration stor[ag]e', or 'phpMyadmin metadata infrastructure'

You're right, including phpMyAdmin name sounds reasonable.
Any opinions against "phpMyAdmin configuration storage"?
