Sebastian,
do you consider these changes for inclusion in 2.9.0?

I asked for a message freeze, thinking we could start 2.9.0-beta in a 
few days.

Then we had this discussion about "Log in to MySQL server" which I 
expect others to contribute to, to make a decision.
