I'm not convinced about a MVC architecture for phpMyAdmin. Even if I was 
convinced, I would not have time to work on the conversion.

We have such a layer in libraries/dbi.

What kind of layer are you proposing that would be different than what 
we have now? PDO or some home-made layer?
