It could tell us if they are in it for the money, to get some
experience developing outside a school environement, looking to
participate in FLOSS, as a first step to continue contributing, ...
(or a combination of these)

Another question we could ask : 'Did you submit an application with
another mentoring organisation?'
If they do we could ask a follow up question, which one they prefer in
case of deduplication? But I'm not sure the answer they would give,
would be anything else than "I'd like to keep my options open, bet on
multiple horses, but in the end I prefer your organisation".
Asking for a prefered project in case of submitting multiple would
make more sense on the Melange website level. But this was discussed
on the GSoC mentors mailing list already, I believe.
