I think the reason it didn't thread properly for you is because it's a
reply to the digest message; if you get the individual messages then the
reply to the digest won't thread properly under them since it's
essentially a new conversation to your mail client.
I'm not sure if you and I are seeing the same thing, though, because I
do see a References header in Avinandan's message.
In cases like this, it's more polite to cut irrelevant parts of the
message when replying, but the threading isn't broken.
