According to distrowatch [1] (I could not find better source right
now), RHEL 6 has 5.3.3 and RHEL 5 has 5.1.6.

Looking at other distros, I've found only Fedora 7 with 5.2.2 being
affected by this bug, but that's from 2007 and without any support now.

IMHO the biggest reason for supporting longer 4.0 is to support MySQL
older than 5.5, which is way more common than PHP 5.2.
