We don't generally recommend starting to code on the actual idea<br>
before the coding period starts. But you are open to research around<br>
the topic, gaining insights from other projects, getting to know the<br>
tools you might want to use to implement this idea, getting a measure<br>
of work that might be required on the existing codebase to support<br>
this etc. This will surely help you in coming up with your proposal.<br>
<br>
For getting familiarized with the codebase and getting your<br>
contributions in, you might wish to take a look at the issue tracker<br>
and pick an issue that no one is currently working on (do add a<br>
comment on it saying you are working on it, so that there is less<br>
duplication of efforts). This will help you to understand the codebase<br>
and give you a taste of working with it.<br>
