But I think it is better to integrate them after 2.6.0 because it's a
hard work to integrate them (many new functions, only available on
servers >= 4.1, 8 datatypes, special data input, special data reading,
etc.)

Eventually basic support. But look at that simple example:
INSERT INTO `test` ( `id` , `geometry` ) VALUES ('',
GeomFromText('LINESTRING( 1 1, 3 3, 7 7)'));
SELECT * FROM test;
+----+---------------------------------------------------------------+
| id | geometry |
+----+---------------------------------------------------------------+
| 1 | |
+----+---------------------------------------------------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
SELECT id, AsText(geometry) AS geometry FROM test;
+----+-------------------------+
| id | geometry |
+----+-------------------------+
| 1 | LINESTRING(1 1,3 3,7 7) |
+----+-------------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
Would be a big piece work to display GIS data in right format because
the data is stored binary.
