Hi,
duplicating code in a distinct folder would make maintenance very difficult.

Did you try setting $cfg['LeftFrameLight'] to false and see what happens?

Anyway, doing another kind of menu for the navigation frame is not a 
project that covers 12 weeks x 40 hours.
