This is a known MySQL problem: dot is an invalid
character in db/table/column name but MySQL doesn't
check for it while creating db/table/column. BTW it
can't do anything with such a db/table/colum.

PMA already checks for such invalid characters as soon
as you create db/table/column with PMA forms. But
it doesn't if you run a SQL script and I'm afraid it would
be really too hard to code it.
