Welcome to the second release candidate of phpMyAdmin 2.11, which will probably be the last series supporting PHP 4. This version supports creating VIEWs from query results and can manage triggers, procedures and functions. It also supports MySQL 5.0.37 query profiling and has an improved interface for servers hosting thousands of databases and tables. Thanks to our valiant testers, rc2 has ten bug fixes, compared to rc1. It should be the last candidate before 2.11.0 final. [Phpmyadmin-devel] using window.opera in js to workaround Opera getAttribute bug

I asked a question on the SquirrelMail dev list about this code < http://squirrelmail.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/squirrelmail/trunk/squirrelm… >. In short, there are comments in the code about Opera returning invalid values for getAttribute. Then, window.opera is used to detect Opera and make sure it doesn't get IE code. The check for window.opera doesn't seem to be necessary for Opera to get the same code as safari and Firefox in this case and I'm not sure what getAttribute bug is being worked around. (It looks like they thought Opera had a bug because it didn't do like IE or something.) Anyway, it was suggested that the js code might be from PHPMyAdmin (which I have absolutely no clue if it is) and that I should ask around here. Please see < http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.mail.squirrelmail.devel/8836 > and read each post. The thread describes in more detail on what the issues are and the concerns. If the code is really from PHPMyAdmin and the issues still exist, there may be some room for cleanup. If there really is a getAttribute bug to be worked around, the thread describes a better way than using window.opera. If not, carry on. Thanks. -- Michael

[Phpmyadmin-devel] about root with no pass

Hi, even if it is a good feature to run phpMyAdmin out of the box on a dev system with root and no pw i think we should limit this ... possible we could add an config switch and/or version check if version is dev, from svn or forced by config ($cfg['allow_root_with_no_pw']) allow root with no pass if version is release deny root with no password (except it is forced by config switch to be allowed) and phpMyAdmin should trigger_error to log this error and report a generic security error message to the user 'security error, please check php errror log for further details' what do you think about? -- Sebastian

Hi --- Strict Standards: str*time() [function.str*time]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. Please use the date.timezone setting, the TZ environment variable or the date_default_timezone_set() function. --- how should we handle this? by default the date.timezone should be setup in the php.ini so we should check this and set it if not set - but what value? adding one more main.php option to display and setup timezone? -- Sebastian Mendel
