Hi,
I would like to reopen the discussion about this issue. I know you're
tired of it, but there are lots of problems for users.
I noticed at least one distro that just copy our
libraries/config.default.php into ../config.inc.php!
Unfortunately, many users do not read the doc about installation, and
even for some who did read it, there are still problems:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1471501&group_id=…
Having to close all browser windows is another thing that is not evident
for many.
For some reasons, the setup script is not as popular as we hoped
(probably due to the directory manipulations related to its use).
My opinion is that we have to think about was it "normal" and expected
for the configuration of OSS products.
Is it too late to revert to our old way of keeping BC by compensating
with code for missing options?
If it's too late, what about having a config-dist.inc.php that would
contain the minimum lines (one server section connecting to localhost
with root and no password). People could copy it into config.inc.php and
be more happy.

Description
-----------
(from http://www.phpmyadmin.net/documentation)
phpMyAdmin handles the administration of MySQL over the Web. It
can manage a whole MySQL server as well as a single database.
Currently it can:
* easily browse through databases and tables
* create, copy, rename, alter and drop databases
* create, copy, rename, alter and drop tables
* do table maintenance
* add, edit and drop fields
* execute any SQL-statement, even multiple queries
* create, alter and drop indexes
* load text files into tables
* create (*) and read dumps of tables or databases
* export (*) data to SQL, CSV, XML, Word, Excel, PDF and Latex formats
* administer multiple servers
* manage MySQL users and privileges
* check server settings and runtime information with configuration
hints
* check referential integrity in MyISAM tables
* using Query-by-example (QBE), create complex queries
automatically connecting required tables
* create PDF graphics of your Database layout
* search globally in a database or a subset of it
* transform stored data into any format using a set of predefined
functions, like displaying BLOB-data as image or download-link
* support InnoDB tables and foreign keys (see FAQ 3.6)
* support mysqli, the improved MySQL extension (see FAQ 1.17)
* communicate in 50 different languages
(*) phpMyAdmin can compress (Zip, GZip -RFC 1952- or Bzip2
formats)
dumps and CSV exports if you use PHP4 >= 4.0.4 with Zlib
support
(--with-zlib) and/or Bzip2 support (--with-bz2).

Betreff: mysql phpmyadmin problem

Hi there,
As an offshoot of mysql/phpmyadmin bug #1436171
If permissions change away from mysql.mysql on any database directory
under /var/lib/mysql (to, say, root.root),
and phpmyadmin detects mysql version > 5.whatever (i.e., phpmyadmin
tries to utilize information_schema),
then phpmyadmin reports No database tables found, despite there
obviously being, say, dozens of databases, and hundreds of tables.
So the one permissions error on one database's directory screws up every
database as far as phpmyadmin is concerned.
Thought you should know.
Best regards from outside washington, dc
Michael
Hi All,
In regard to bug #1446538: I did some work with the Documentation
file from svn. Here's what I've found: First of all, as I imagine
you have realized by now, the current CSS method of numbering is not
well supported at all. Only the most recent versions of Opera and
FireFox support the necessary CSS. Since this leaves out the vast
majority who use IE, it isn't an ideal solution.
Obviously we have multiple options for fixing this. In the spirit
of keeping it dynamic, I put together a javascript that (should)
number things the same (and be browser independent!).
This took me awhile, so I apologize if the logic is crude; I'm sure
it can be refined. Basically we make arrays of the DOM elements for
all the H2/H3/H4 in the file. I did simple nested looping, and used
the Y index of each element to determine the order they land in. The
page is then re-written with the index numbers from the loops.
So long story short, the looping technique is ugly and inefficient,
but it's late and it works. If somebody wants to rewrite that part of
the logic, I think it would be a decent replacement.
One big question I have, however: Why are we bothering dynamically
generating the numbering if the achor tags are all hand coded? Adding
an entry would seem to break the anchors anyway.
The Documentation.html is in the attached archive. Comments welcome.

Hi,
michal, why do you not add your 'Demo Server' message to the language files?
and possible a config switch
// set to true to enable demo server message display
$cfg['demoserver'] = false;
?

Hi!
Is it a known bug of the 2.8.1 release that it doesn't load "config.inc.php" files?
I had two cases of the installation (one was done by a coworker of mine
independantly from me) and we in the end had the same problem: Our
config.inc.php file was not used. It was readable and all, but the
config.default.php always seems to take precedence.
config.inc.php was put into the main s9y directory, the setup folder was deleted
aftwards.
Thus we had to modify the config.default.php file, but I'm sure this is not
intended? ;-)
Best regards,
Garvin

in english: is it possible to automatically create a table from CSV
file? in other words: auto detect field type by content?
