phpMyAdmin 2.8.0-beta1 - January 29th, 2006
===========================================
A set of PHP-scripts to administrate MySQL over the Web.
--------------------------------------------------------
Announcement
------------
The phpMyAdmin Project is proud to announce the immediate
availability
of the first beta release for phpMyAdmin 2.8.0.
phpMyAdmin is a web administration tool for MySQL databases,
intended to
handle a whole database server as well as a single database. Over
the years,
it has become the most popular Web GUI for MySQL and is
downloaded between 6,000
and 14,000 times a day, according to SourceForge.net.
The jump from 2.7.0 to 2.8.0 is partly because from now on,
versions with the same
X.Y number will have the same feature set, while the third number
will be for bug
fixes. Also, 2.8.0 has a new web-based setup script.
Highlights
----------
Improvements:
* PHP 5.1.2 compatibility
* Possibility to hide databases
* Configurable memory limit for import/export
* Better support for CGI
* Web-based setup
* ... and more than 55 bugs fixed
Detailed list of changes is available under

Hi,
I suggest 2.7.1-rc1 (or beta) on Jan 29th. I don't think we can
"deglobalize" for 2.7.1, but we should be aiming to test/stabilize the
tree before any bigger change.
I would like to fix those bugs before:
- 1376314: in some cases, SHOW GRANTS does not return the db-specific
privileges
- 1396998: exact row count for VIEWs
Anything else you feel is urgent?
Marc
hi,
"Starting with phpMyAdmin 2.6.1, MIME-based transformations that use an
external program need PHP 4.3.0 or newer"
Is this correct english?
"Starting with phpMyAdmin 2.6.1, MIME-based transformations that uses an
external program needs PHP 4.3.0 or newer"
and does it mean, that PMA always needs php 4.3 or only if MIME-based
transformations is used?
"Starting with phpMyAdmin 2.6.1, for MIME-based transformations that
uses an external program PHP 4.3.0 or newer is needed"

Hi Devels!
Does anyone heard about problems with phpMyAdmin 2.6.x on PHP 4.2.2.?
The provider "schlund.de" have upgraded to the version 4.2.2 from 4.2.1.
Some little changes are in PHP 4.2.2,
see
https://service.schlund.de/service/stoerungsdienst/ankuendigungen.php3http://www.php.net/ChangeLog-4.php#4.4.2:
I've checked, and I think there should'nt be problem.
But if I click on "browse", or make a sql-query the browse-page with the
results from the database is empty.
In Internet-Explorer there comes a http error 'page could not be shown'.
In Firefox, the page is empty ('<html><head></head><body></body></html>')
Then I've tried to copy the 'browse' link from source code:
sql.php?lang=de-utf-8&server=1&db=test_db&table=archiv_old&goto=tbl_properties_structure.php&back=tbl_properties_structure.php&sql_query=SELECT+%2A+FROM+%60archiv_old%60&pos=0
Nothing happens ;(
I'm in contact with "schlund.de", because many other peoples have same
problems.
Note: older version of phpMyAdmin may be not work too.
same Problems ...
Many thanks and regards
Michael

Hi,
I suggest a 2.7.1 message freeze for tomorrow, Jan 29th.
By the way, what do we do about Sebastian's idea? I think it could be
valuable for our users to know that the features of 2.7.x are the same,
regardless of the "x".
This means that on Jan 29, we should release 2.8.0-rc1 ?

I'm not sure if changing coding style in files included from elsewhere
is good idea, it will just make harder to find our patches inside those
files.

Hi!
I have been in contact with Garvin Hicking regarding a blog-system he is a
developer of(www.s9y.org). I originally contacted him to offer a
contribution to that project. The contribution was a php-script to manage
the languagefiles of their blogsystem. I originally created the script for
my own CMS solution. Both my and their languagefiles used constants for
storing translated text.
He told me that you may be interested in using this for phpMyAdmin, since I
use phpMyAdmin everyday I thought maybe I could contribute a bit to you too.
I adapted the code to your string-based languagefiles. So now it works with
phpMyAdmin.
The tool has these features:
- Online updating trough a web-browser.
- Remember last language you worked with.
- Login via htpasswd-files (can be changed to MySQL with great ease)
- Download all, or single files as zip. (do not require user to enter
username / password)
- List all available languages for download. (do not require user to enter
username / password)
- Automatic detection of correct container for strings. (example: if string
contains \n the string will be contained within , if no special chars
are detected the string is contained within )
- Support multiple charsets, and sets the HTTP-header charset to the correct
charset. (required by phpMyAdmins languagefiles).
I am open to suggestions on more features...
I think this app will make it more comfortable for your translators to
translate. You will be able to change from strings to constants (or any
other format) in your languagefiles without worrying about users not being
able to translate the new files. Users of phpMyAdmin will be able to
download languagefiles whenever they want. It will be easier for a new
translator to get started translating a new language.
You may test the script/app at
http://demo.prosjektweb.net/languageadmin/phpmyadmin.php login with
username: s , password: s
To view available languages for download go to :
http://demo.prosjektweb.net/languageadmin/phpmyadmin.php?m_action=show_files
So I guess my question is do you want to use this app?
