I guess that's fine with the GPL as long as changing the theme does not result in removing/hiding copyright information (e.g. the README file). But another thing that came to my mind when reading this: What about the custom theme itself? I'm not a GPL specialist, but does the GPL force them to make their theme available under the GPL, too? If so, is this something we want? :-) Regards, Alexander
