Hi, why are we using five new messages, for example __('SELECT *') ? These are untranslatable keywords.

My opinion is that these messages in the buttons are representing the sql query keywords, which have to be as same in languages. There is no point of translating these keywords.
Its just my opinion.

Well in original patch they were rather 'Select', 'Select all', 'Update', ... But after looking at it again I found it too confusing (eg. man could expect to 'Select all' to select all content of text area) so I changed them to show the SQL which will be generated, while keeping gettext calls. You're right that it probably doesn't make sense to translate those, will fix this.
