[Phpmyadmin-devel] I made a new PMA theme demo.

Hi, I made a new PMA theme demo. url: http://pmademo.byethost7.com/ *PMA should be more like a native client, not a webpage* *Ajax query should be more like an object, every query should be logged,* * query have his own timeout, result can be redisplay,* * easy to reedit and requery* Add some components: * bottom status bar: show processing query * console: a console that log every query, log every message * collections instead of recent tables Some components are existing, but changed positions: * server choices, instant path, merge them to #header .navigation new instant path bar just like Microsoft windows(7/8) explorer's * move SQL query window to console Delete some components: * delete navipanellinks, delete recent tables Demo is semi-finished, time constraints. I hope you get my points My English is not very well, Edward Cheng

Hi Edward, thanks for sharing your demo. Sorry, I don't recognize phpMyAdmin's interface in it, and I expect that our community would feel the same. -- Marc Delisle http://infomarc.info | http://phpmyadmin.net

I quite like the idea, it really could be nice user interface. However I'm afraid that doing both UI changes and implementing new components will be quite big task, so maybe you could try with doing UI changes only at first? -- Michal Čihař | http://cihar.com | http://phpmyadmin.net

Hi, Michal Čihař Thank you, I know it'll be a big task. Upgrading all the elements all in a once would be extremely time consuming. Including change a large number of files which may bring uslots of bugs also. It would be unstable. And I know we cannot afford to rebuild the whole structure again. Our project's features focused on being simple and efficient, instead of being trendy and good-looking. I think a compromised solution would be, only upgrading the framework and some common components DOM structure while keeping the support for current components, and finish the rest upgrade later on. I could contribute a lot this year for I got tons of time lately, and I would keep doing that afterwards. BTW, is there any chance to be selected as a GSoC 2014 project? -- Edward Cheng 2014-02-12 2:46 GMT+08:00 Michal Čihař <michal@cihar.com>:

I'm not really sure whether this is good project for GSoC. You need quite a lot of code knowledge for doing such changes and I also think there is not enough time in GSoC for this. -- Michal Čihař | http://cihar.com | http://blog.cihar.com

Hi, Michal Thank you for your reply! I wrote a new subject, title is "GSoC 2014 Project: Navigation Remake and Optimization of two official themes" You can find it on phpmyadmin-devel mail-list, I think I can handle new subject, Waiting for your response! 2014-02-27 21:12 GMT+08:00 Michal Čihař <michal@cihar.com>:

Hi, I want to volunteer for phpmyadmin. I have good knowledge of object oriented PHP with Mysql. How can I start? Can anyone give me a suggestion? I also want to join GSoc 2014 through phpmyadmin. Is that possible if I start now? Thank you
