Hi,
I don't remember if we got a concensus about the best default value for this one. In the forum we got strong remarks against those icons, so maybe we should put 'both' by default.

AFAIK there was no consensus :-)
I vote for 'both' as default.
Hi!
AFAIK there was no consensus :-)
There was at least a proposal by Marc, to which I agreed and nobody disagreed. :)
I vote for 'both' as default.
I'm not sure if we should put this step backward. 'false' would make more sense than 'both', because 'both' just takes up so much space - the reason why icons where actually implemented.
A better solution would be to find icons which the user's like better. From the forums I remember 2 people speaking against this (one heavily re-posting his opinion), but also 2 speaking for the icons.
I agree however (what I already said to Alexander personally) that we need better icons for this Primary/Index stuff...
Sadly I'm not very talented in doing icons at all, so I'd love to have someone helping in this. :-)
Regards, Garvin.

The space was the first reason to implement icons, but there is another one now: an intuitive way to start some operations.
So I would like to promote the use of icons (and the production of better icons by some artists), that is why I would prefer 'both' or TRUE, not FALSE.
People who have space considerations can set it to FALSE (unless they don't control the directory where PMA is installed).

When introducing new icons, every user has to get used to them first. We introduced them to clear up the interface and to save space.
Replacing icons by text would mean going back. And displaying text AND icons would make the icons useless because together they would need more space than before.
imho, the default configuration should always be the best for most users. And I think that this is the case for the icons-only setting. Or did you ever look for an option to enable icon captions in Word, Excel etc.?

Alexander
