Hi,
I would like to take part in this year's Google Summer of Code to
implement the User Preferences proposal. I took part in GSoC two years
ago, implementing phpMyAdmin's new setup script, which I hope works as
intended :) Currently I am on the first year of postgraduate course
for master's degree on Poznań University of Technology, specialization
- Data Processing Technologies.
In accordance with project proposal, all settings would be stored in
pmadb, with an option for easy export and import. User will be able to
change all relevant PMA features which do not affect performance or
security settings. After taking a quick glance at config.default.php I
believe these settings should be considered for customization:
* DROP confirmations
* show executed sql (ShowSql)
* LeftFrame*, table comments in tooltips
* displayed rows
* INSERT form customization
* default files (DefaultTab*)
* maybe export/import default options?
* MySQL manual type
* window title
* SQL Query box settings
* hiding some tabs under one drop-down menu (eg. I have never used
Designer or Query by example for database / Import for single table)

Dear sir,
I’m Sutharshan from SriLanka. I’m an undergraduate student and also a part
time developer as well. I’m interested in participating gsoc this year. I’m
working as a freelance developer for last few years (4 years) and I’m having
good experience in Web designing, web development, and software development
as well. I’m having deep knowledge in php, JavaScript, Java and web
designing aspects (css, html etc. ). I’m using pma for last several years and
I have done modifications on that to suit my needs and I have uploaded some
of them that I’m using currently which can be benefit to others as well. I
would like to participate in the gsoc this year with pma and I would be
greateful if I’m able to do with pma.
Currently I’m doing few additional stuffs which can work together with pma
and can provide lots of benefit to users. Those are follows
1. * **pma phptoolkit *– it will generate php code to access the
selected database tables and the codes will be perfect oop and the html and
php are differentiated as much as possible. It will generate php, html and
the css files for each selected functionalities. Since its increase the
speed of development and also reduce the time for development, which add
more value to pma.
a. Its capable of providing php codes following functionalities
i. Display
results in table format with record navigation
ii. Insert
records to the table
iii. Delete
records from the table
iv. Update
results to the table
v. Search
results based on selected fields
b. Its has two modes
i. Wizard
mode (ajax based)
ii. Expert
mode (Specially for updating, deleting and seach)
c. Each generated html form elements style can be changed by modifying
the css
2. * **Advanced Query builder* – I have already did the basic query
builder and updated that patch already. I’m having an idea to develop wizard
type advanced query builder which works like visual studio query builder.
Haven’t started yet. But I have the clear idea of how I’m going to implement
that. It’s basically will be designed using JavaScript for most parts and
little bit php. It can be used to generate any sort of query and able to
integrate with pma phptoolkit as well
Also I’m able to do some of the gsoc ideas which was published in the pma
website as well. Those are
· User interface cleanup
· Make pma functioning based on ajax
· Also able to handle oop
I’m looking forward for opinion regarding my new ideas and I’ll be able to
handle Both my ideas together and also able to work in gsoc ideas listed in
the website, I have gone through my ideas to a certain extend, therefore i
can able to add some more changes in the pma interface with my ideas to make
it easy to use and add some user friendly stuffs using ajax as well.
This is just my opinion. Please let me know if there are any possibilities
that can be add more value.
Some of other projects I have done using php, ajax, JavaScript, css are
listed below (not all are listed..)
· www.gsoc.izonedevelopers.com/test.html - Load website articles in
any website by using a sinble piece of javascript which can be customized in
lots of ways. Also able to track views and clicks from each publisher
websites. Similar to the functionality of the adsense. its loads the content
of my website www.izonedevelopers.com
· www.izonedevelopers.com –my own cms based website and the admin
panel is ajax based with js content editor (nicEdit)
· http://hosting.izonedevelopers.com/ipanel/ - hosting panel using
php and javascript. The main advantage of this panel is its runs in a shared
hosting. Not in a reseller hosting. Therefore any shared host can be turned
into reseller hosting account. Not all the parts are implemented. its still
under development. But most important parts are already finished.
· Demo username – javaconvert.co.cc
· Demo password – 123456
· www.iads.izonedevelopers.com/trace/ - email tracking system which
can be used to view how many emails that we have send was viewed by the
users. Users need not to click on anything. Just opening the email is
enough. Its works with all email sending programs perfectly.eg: sendblaster
· Demo username –demo
· Password – 123
Hope these examples will demonstrate my ability to work with php and
javascript as well
Hope to get a good response from all.
Regards,
Sutharshan
Hi,
I see that we've gotten quite a number of positive reviews in the
relatively new voting feature at Sourceforge[1]. I was looking over the
"Thumbs Down" votes to see what the user complaints are an a vast
majority of them relate to the poor download process provided by SF.
Mirrors not working or being outdated, long delays redirecting to a
mirror, broken links, etc -- is there any way we can improve this
process? Some projects provide a direct link to one of the mirrors as a
second option to the normal download link, though I don't know if SF
allows that in this case. Perhaps Sourceforge needs to be notified of
the problems people are encountering and nagged until it's fixed. I
don't know what's best, I'm just asking.
But really, the percentage of happy users is extremely high, kudos to
the team!

Hi everybody,
I'd like to propose some new features that could be implemented in the
tool during this summer GSoC. My idea is to come up with something
vaguely similar to the well known cakephp, but extremely simplified.
Let's say we have a small company willing to quickly organize a
meeting with some sort of planning done on a database (either
existing, or created ad hoc). Maybe it could be useful from the pma
tool to be able to generate a simple yet effective interface for the
database so that different users can have the permission to edit, add
and delete the data (selectively), allowing also for multi-user
concurrent editing. This in part overlaps with my other proposal, of
adding AJAX support with in-line and concurrent editing to the tool,
so maybe I could work with another person in this project to come up
with something good.
Please let me have some quick feedback about this, so I can submit my
formal proposal :)
Thank you
Tiziano Santoro

Hi,
I'm working on a patch for this bug https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2983056&group_id=23067&ati…
On the demo server, the error happens whatever engine is chosen (MariaDB or MySQL).
I am trying to reproduce the bug on my machine (Mac OSX 10.6) with a fresh 3.3.2-rc1 PMA.
I already have MySQL Server, and I am compiling MariaDB to test with it, and while the falsy error is still here, Warning message doesn't display.
How can I enable the backtrace mode ?
Thank you.

Hi,
because of the size limit , i am resending the my previous mail but this
time in place of attaching the image i am providing a URL
URL for image:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1008346/mock_schema.jpg
PFA with this mail
as marc Suggested that we should discuss the design with the help of an
example,
so i have made a mock schema with three tables artist, song and sings.details
u can see in the diagram with this mail.
i know The Design which i have developed till now is just the beginning
draft , lot of discussion and thought has to be put to finalize the design
with functionality.
Its my Bad to miss the having clause,we can put it in with the Group By
option in menu bar(see the diagram).
I got a comment from Michal cihar that this time phpMyadmin is selecting
only those students who have contributed something before, but i have not
contributed to phpmyadmin till now.
But i am willing to contribute can anyone please suggest me some bugs to
fix and which can be done in the given timeline also please tell where to
find documentation for developers, explaining overall structure
Thanks,
Ankit Gupta

Hello everyone
Michael Keck and I were discussing about templates in PMA. We both
would like to convert phpMyAdmin to use a template system. We did not
make a decision yet on using Twig or Dwoo but are discussing that. I
would like to contribute as a GSoC student for this transition. The
problem is, that there is too much work to do for 12 weeks. That's why
Michael and I were thinking about partitioning the tasks in order to
be able to finish it faster. It would not be a real cooperation as we
would define who is responsible for what section of PMA.
I'm not sure whether Michael can or wants to be a mentor himself or it
would help for the project to be done.
What do you think about that?
Regards
Silvan
Hello,
My name is Tiziano and I am a 21 years old student of Computer
Engineering from Italy. I'd like to get involved in the google soc,
and I've already sent a proposal via the google form. I'd like to
develop the AJAX interactive part of the tool, enriching it with
in-line editing and concurrent editing, allowing for several users to
effectively work at the same time on the same data. It's the first
time I collaborate in an open source project, even though I have
already got some experience in developing RIAs, especially with AJAX
interactions. I hope to be able to start collaborating soon with you
:)

Hi,
After the student proposal window closes (April 9, 19:00 UTC) there is
an allocation and ranking process that takes places. In the ranking
process we will look at your proposals but also at your phpMyAdmin
patches. The ranking process starts on April 16 but as we need time to
evaluate your patches, the deadline to submit them to the Patches
tracker is April 14, 19:00 UTC.
Thanks for your cooperation,
the mentors team
