Hi there. I'm a student who's interested in your web application "phpMyAdmin", and I convinced I could help you in some "issues" posted as ideas here [0]. To be precise I'm interested in making phpMyAdmin more interactive by further enhancing AJAX support for the app. As I've seen, you already use the jQuery API which will make my work less tiresome. I have a question regarding the "AJAX" idea. This seems straightforward: make all those actions through a xmlhttprequest (ajax) . I see some of them are marked as done. Where will the php scripts for ajax reside? For example "Insert rows with an Ajax request: todo": I'll make a function in common.js for a ajax request (with the help of jQuery API), yet I'm not sure what will happen next: if I just make a redirect it will feel like no ajax was made whatsoever. I'm guessing that the user will remain on the same "insert rows" page for any further additions, and maybe add message on top of the table if it had succeed. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm familiar with AJAX and a bit of jQuery, but I need to know what exactly is intended to be done with them. [Phpmyadmin-devel] Gsoc Idea: Zoom Search

Hi, This is some of my suggestions for the project zoom search proposed for gsoc2011. Project: Zoom Search Summary: Zoom search is a feature to represent the data in a graphical manner. The original idea proposed was to make a 2D scatter. But this idea is meaningful only for fields with numeric values. The idea can be extended to make charts which meaningfully classify data and provide a visual representation. For example for fields with data type *enum* we can make pie charts and zooming into the pie chart will result in providing greater details about the data points lying in that region. User can select the type of chart (pie, bar, frequency, 2D scatter etc) he wants at any juncture of time and depending on the level of zoom and the fields to relate the desired chart can be made. Some additional features: 1. Update feature for a data point: The record can be updated graphically by selecting the data point. 2. Deletion of record using the data point. 3. Grouping of similar records: Data can be represented in the form of stacks. For example one stack can contain movies pertaining to the same year. Zooming in the stack will result in greater details. 4. Can be combined with the result set of custom queries of the users. Rationale for doing this: 1. Data can be better interpreted in graphical form by the end user. 2. It will provide a user friendly approach to view/manipulate desired data. 3. WYSIWYG approach. 4. As I propose to develop it as a plug-in, it can be used by other applications also easily. Development methodology: As the other projects suggests the community is moving towards ajax for phpmyadmin. Development using ajax, php ,javascript will prove to be useful. Moreover the development will be as a separate api without disturbing the core of phpmyadmin so that it will not interfere with the simultaneous and future changes in the core. These are a few suggestions from my side for the project. I will append the list and refine the features as they will occur to me. I will come up with an implementation plan in detail soon. Hi All, My name is Dennis Chen, a postgraduate student in Tongji University, Shanghai , China. My major is Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems and my research direction is text mining. I have internship experiences in companies like BOSCH, NEC and IBM, worked for projects which involved C/C++,php, javascript and perl. In the company of IBM I took care of nearly all php projects of the team, including a web monitor for storage system (php & dojo), an interview system for interns (symfony framework & JQuery), a machine reservation system( php & JQuery) and other small web tools. It's an disappointment that I can not show you the sanpshots of these projects. I really love web programming and I even developed an app as the birthday present for my wife, I can show you some snapshots: 1.png<http://www.likegermans.com/gsoc2011/1.png>is the initial status of the app. I prepared many questions for her and if she answers correctly the puzzle will become more in order and otherwise more chaostic. 2.png <http://www.likegermans.com/gsoc2011/2.png> is the final status if my wife can earn 100 points. I apply the magic of CSS Sprite to form the puzzle. You can see that I use many components in JQuery UI to make this app. Recently, I just added a new feature to a BBS of a group of friends of mine: users can twit others in the posts. They love it! As a frequent user of phpMyAdmin, I'm really desired to contribute myself to this project. I've read the applicant guide, I understand that I need to do some bug fixing work, but I don't quite understand how to find a proper bug or feature to fix, do you have some suggestions? by the way, if lucky enough, I hope that I can take the mission of 'Ajax' or ''Support of procedures' in the idea list Best Regards, Dennis Chen

I have experimented with the current capability of phpmyadmin with stored procedures, triggers, routines and events. As this project aim to create an user friendly interface in phpmyadmin I have some ideas to improve it and also some questions. Currently phpmyadmin supports the above mention features of mysql only with sql queries. While creating procedures with ";" in between delimiter have to be changed. My view is why the user have to take care of it. We can pass some default delimiter to PMA_sqlQueryForm with the delimiter added to our query. So for that I suggest to create separate query box to deal with those things and this would be in a tab "Routines" for each database. It can even be better if we display the list of routines in the database page (the page one gets by selecting a database) and also the names of the trigger associated with a table when we browse it. Again as ALTER PROCEDURE<http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/alter-procedure.html>, ALTER FUNCTION <http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/alter-function.html>does not allow us to change the parameters or the body, we can make a interface to change its parameters and body. We can program such a way it automatically drops it and create it with the same name with the modified changes. Are my ideas meet the needs of phpmyadmin. Hi All, At this moment, the Documentation page contains a list of all available Configuration options [0], with a small explanation of what it does and the possible values, but it doesn't show what the current default value is. I know it is possible to check the default value in the libraries/config.default.php file, but for most users it would be more convenient to look it up in the documentation. Should we add the default value to the Documentation? As the default values are readily available, the Documentation page could be synchronized with a script. What do you think? Hi Developers, I am new to the PMA community and relatively new to the codebase. I've hit a road block with a bug and would appreciate a lot if some seasoned developers would help me get over the problem. Narrowed down the problem to being from php.ini 's safe mode setting which doesn't let set_time_limit override default max_execution_time in php.ini After making a rough idea of how the export works in PMA it struck me that we can use the function that basically outputs every line in all types of output. [install dir]/export.php > PMA_exportOutputHandler to check if we are going to run out of time http://pastebin.com/8BCSN7es I made these changes from around line 110 search for function called PMA_exportOutputHandler and you'll find it. Now the final lines on my download give out the line "It's gonna blow!!!" last few lines. http://pastebin.com/BEbv42Ds Now I need to make sure that 1. User gets an error. (session or something? $GLOBALS['message'] = PMA_Message::error(); is of no use for files going line by line :( ) 2. The function passes back the last output line or may be redirects for another file download for lines after the current one being output. Can you guys think of any other scenario for an error (except for safe mode) and can you guide me on shooting out the errors? Hi pma developing community! First of all, a small presentation, my name is Andreas Lundquist and is a pre-graduate student from Sweden. I have been using phpmyadmin a lot when doing things like small websites and so. It's always been my first choice when doing web development. I'm interested in the idea of improving the browse-mode like said on the idea page at http://wiki.phpmyadmin.net/pma/GSoC_2011_Ideas_List#Browse-mode_improvements . There were quite many users who have sent in requests about this topic and many of them I think are possible to implement. Sadly I have never contributed to any open-source projects before so this mailinglist and stuff like git is quite new for me. However I have been using svn on some projects so I'm not to blown away of the idea. I have managed to get the source code to a local git repository and will create a repository on the site recommended by the git guide in the wiki. I will look through the source code and hopefully understand the structure and try to fix some bugs or requests from the bug tracker so I get the idea of sending in code to be reviewed. Just one question though just to be clear, am I supposed to write a line in the bug tracker before I start try to implement it even if I'm not sure I could do it?
