Hi,
After reading [0] I am almost convinced that grid editing with a single-click is not the best idea.
So, for 4.0, I suggest to switch to some other action to activate grid editing.
I see why some people don't like it, or consider it dangerous. On a sidenote, I wonder if they don't like spreadsheets either, because a cell can be edited by just one click as well. (But a spreadsheet most of the time has an undo button or a save button, and implementing this in phpmyadmin would be too difficult I guess)
I actually like this grid editing feature a lot, so if we change it's behaviour I would suggest not to hide it too much. Double clicking would be fine, but Shift or Ctrl-click would hide this feature too much, IMHO. Adding a configuration option (or user preference) that defines how the grid editing is activated (as proposed in the tracker item), seems a good idea to me.

Good points, Dieter. So, for 4.0, we could have these options, as suggested in the RFE:
- On click (current behavior), - On double click, - Disable.
But, my initial message said "So, for 4.0, I suggest to switch to some other action to activate grid editing."
So, should we switch the _default_ action needed to enter in grid editing?
