Maybe it would be the right time to freeze 2.2.1, test it the best we can, and release, to make available those bug fixes (and new features)?

Yes sure! I suggested that a few weeks ago :) Currently in the army for one last week (working for the "Swiss Raid Commando" Exercice: check www.src.ch for more infos...).
