Hi,

Hi,
i just want to know what you think about the AGPL
(in short AGPL requires users to share their modifications on this software even if not provided as download and only as service, f. e. an ISP providing phpMyAdmin to their customers does not need to share their modifications)

I would not be in favour of such a thing.
First because being under the GPL is very common nowadays and it keeps things simple to have not too many different licences.
Second because I do not think that there's much to gain from such shared patches, but it does put more burden on ISP's changing e.g. a few lines to integrate it with their custom control panel software.
I'm not sure what the consequences for Debian distributing phpMyAdmin would be, I would have to read the full licence text for that. But I see not much to gain except more complications for your users.

Well changing license would mean to get agreement from all contributors, I doubt it is worth of such big effort.

phpMyAdmin is currently under GPL v2 and as I read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affero_General_Public_License the AGPL is not compatible with GPL v2.
I don't know about all the intricaties of switching license for our software and I don't see any urgency about doing so.
