Hi all.
I came across the project idea of improving the UI of phpMyAdmin. As a user, I wanted a lot of improvement myself since I deal with large databases and the current UI slows down my work by a great deal. I have been using JQuery for more than a year now and I've become pretty good at it. I was wondering if one could use JQuery entirely for to make the front end resemble MySQL Query Browser, an application that I use a lot for my database work when there are no 3306 firewalling issues. Please do let me know if I can proceed with this idea for my Google SoC application.
Regards.

Hello, Using jQuery is the way we are going with phpMyAdmin, however I don't think it's a good idea to replicate the interface of another product into phpMyAdmin. There can be similarities, of course, but the interface looks of a product is part of this product and we would not like to be sued by Oracle...
Yes of course. Anything that is as good as Query Browser or even better will be great, even if it didn't replicate the look and feel :-) .
I have another query. One of the websites that I developed which uses Jquery and Ajax heavily is a secure portal for my University alumni. I, however, feel that a demonstration of it will greatly improve my chances for my application. I would like to know if there is anyway that I can demonstrate the application to the mentors using either a temporary id on the portal or give just a short write-up on the website features and design.

When the Google site is open to proposals, just put in your proposal the link and any credentials we need to look your application. The content of proposals is confidential so the credentials won't leak.
However, as mentionned in item 2 of the student checklist [0], we also need some proof of what you can do, in the form of patches for phpMyAdmin. We have no way to verify that you authored the application you demonstrate.
