Given that we are an open source project, there is nothing really stopping
you from using the code anyway, since you are using it in an open source
project.
I use phpmyadmin daily and its a damn nice piece of
software.

The code I'm working on would be released as open
source so there isnt
really a licensing concern i dont think, but i wanted your approval
anyways.
For the licensing, your code would need to be under a GPL license, not
any
of the other open source licenses, as phpMyAdmin is under GPL.
