How to test if a zipping option is cheked and if not use the old style dump else use the new one. Then almost the uncompressed dump may always works.
Well you'll have to check the code in "tbl_dump.php3" and "libraries/build_dump.php3". I don't have enought free time to do it now but maybe you can do it? ;) May be at weekend.(if Argentina still exist :´( )
