Hey all, I am Arpit Goyal, 4th year undergraduate, pursuing Integrated Mtech. in Mathematics and computing at IIT Delhi, India. I am interested in working with PMA this GSOC, and have setup PMA completely. I have a strong grasp on web-development languages such as: PHP,ROR, Javascript, Jquery, HTML5. I have started working on the bugs, but stuck in understanding the flow/structure of the program. Anyone suggest me how should i proceed for understanding the structure. Hello, I saw there are various branches like MAINT_x_y_z where x.y.z seems to be version if I am not wrong. Similarly, there are branches with QA_x_y. What is the difference between MAINT and QA branches? Thanks, Chirayu Chiripal

Hey, I am interestted in participating in summer of code this year. I was wondering what the PMA irc channel is ? Are you guys on freenode ? Next as with many colleges, because of the way they provide internet to their hostlers, I am unable to send a git pull request cause the ssh connections are blocked. So I was wondering if you guys would accept bug patches as unix diff command results mailed to you ? Regards, Aditya

[Phpmyadmin-devel] bug while creating tables in empty database

When i tried to create table in a database by selecting the database from the nav panel if i click go it asks for name but if i dont give the number of columns it creates table with 4 columns by default i think its a error in the the js. i am working on it and giving a pull request. -- Abhinandan Bhattacharjee

Hi, Refreshing the Table Export page causes this bug. After looking at the code I got that the bug is due to the missing of this parameter '$_REQUEST['single_table']' in the display_export.inc.php The only way to fix it is (as I suppose) to append the single_table='true' in the url when the users first come to the Table Export page. my doubts are : 1. Does it even counted as a bug ? (in case if we don't expect the user to refresh the page) 2. Is editing the URL ok ? or if you have some other solution in your mind please do tell. Thanks. Hello, I am Chirayu Chiripal (aka D-storm) a final year computer science engineering student from India. I am interested to take part in GSOC 2014 and work for phpMyAdmin. I read http://wiki.phpmyadmin.net/pma/GSoC_2014_Applicant_Guide and saw that you only accept people who have already made some contribution to phpMyAdmin. What I have done so far? I have forked the Github Repo of phpMyAdmin and started looking into the code to get the understanding of how it works and I am also trying to implement some of the features requested on sourceforge.net. I would like to know, what should I do to improve my chances to get selected for GSOC 2014 and do some quality contribution to phpMyAdmin? Is there any IRC channel for phpMyAdmin where I can discuss issues? Hello, I am Nisarg Jhaveri, a computer science student from India. I am interested in participating in GSoC 2014 with phpMyAdmin. I have proficient knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS/CSS3, HTML/HTML5 and basic knowledge of MySQL. I have gone through the phpMyAdmin code-base and by now I am comfortable with the existing code. I would like to work on Structure tools project as suggested in Ideas List ( http://wiki.phpmyadmin.net/pma/GSoC_2014_Ideas_List#Structure_tools ). 1. Central list of columns - This may be a very useful feature for phpMyAdmin. Benefits are listed at ideas page. - Maintain a central list of all existing columns in all tables per database. - Suggest columns from the list while creating new table or adding column to existing table. - Alert when someone try to create column with similar name but different specification ( like datatype ). - I am not sure about the user interface. 2. Database Normalization - I don't know much about normalization, but it seems useful and interesting. I am not clear about what I will do for this. Please suggest me more ideas on the project.
