Hi my name is Akash Chauhan , and I am a 3rd year student of National Institute of Technology Trichy India, also I am member of development team of a project called connectnit.org which connects all the NIT's at one place, also I am member of my college's webdesigning team. I am interested in GSOC 2010 . As having good experience in php and mysql i was happy to see PMA in it ,when I was looking at the ideas of PMA and I am interested in the idea CHARTs for server status using GD2 and would like to contribute for the same. [Phpmyadmin-devel] JQuery AJAX Implementation - Google SoC

Hi. I've tried to come up with a method that will help the UI experience for the user through AJAX while degrading gracefully for non Javascript supporting browsers. So here it goes: Ajaxifying the Browse table interface: 1) Currently clicking on the Delete icon causes a Javascript alert and then a page refresh takes place. Instead of refreshing, we can have a $(this).parent().parent().hide() called and at the same time, send a request to sql.php to make the deletion. 2) Currently clicking on the Edit icon causes a new page to open and changes must be made and saved there. We can associate the double click event of JQuery (.dblclick) with each of the fields inside a row so that when one would double click on a field in the row, all fields in the row turn into text boxes where changes can be made and once the focus is removed, the text boxes can become text fields again. Once a user decides to commit all changes, he would click the 'Submit Changes' button and he would receive the status update regarding the changes in the table. 3) A similar method can be employed to implement the Add row feature in Ajax. These are the ideas that I could come up with right now. The best part about this is, one need not be concerned about majority of things while writing the Javascript code. One can see that if Javascript is disabled, the application would run how it would have normally run otherwise. Also, there is a team that is working on GUI improvement. Their work can be run independently of this and very minor changes would have to be made in order to accommodate the JQuery Ajax code into the improved application. Hi, As you may already know Joomla! didn't participate in GSoC this year. Last year I was a GSoC student doing a project for Joomla: http://jwcp.googlecode.com/ Here you can find my last year's proposal: http://edo.webmaster.am/proposals/11 This year I want to extend it and make possible to select tables from the database which can be kept under revision control with the help of mysql triggers. Currently in Working Copy I'm using a "spy" implemented with mysql triggers which can log the changes made on the table. What do you think can the versioning of mysql tables become a project for phpMyAdmin? Regards, Edvard

I went through the requested feature list and had a look at the area of the codebase where I have to do the development. I have few ideas to add in this regard. My feeling is that, before adding charts to the runtime information tab we should put in place a framework that would allow us to extend charting facilitates wherever we want to have it in phpMyAdmin. What I'm proposing is a general data structure that would facilitate multiple types of charts (we can learn a lot from Google Visualization API in this regard), and a set of interfaces that would facilitate different implementation for different chart rendering engines( we can even go for something other than CD2, if we feel like that sometimes down the line) Though this would take few weeks of extra time, I feel that this allows a lot of extensibility. When we have this framework in place we can do the implementation as for the requirement we have now and we can go on to add different charts to phpMyAdimn in the future as the requirement arises. Everything went well until I had to merge my changes in the QA_3_3 branch to master. This is what I did : git pull (to sync with current changes in git) git checkout QA_3_3 (made changes to main.php and ChangeLog) git commit -a -m "message" so far no problems, but then git checkout master git merge QA_3_3 and then I got this : $ git merge QA_3_3 Auto-merging ChangeLog CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in ChangeLog Auto-merging Documentation.html Auto-merging libraries/config.default.php Auto-merging main.php Auto-merging tbl_change.php CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in tbl_change.php Automatic merge failed; fix conflicts and then commit the result. I understand the automerge of Documentation.html and libraries/config.default.php. They are probably different between branches. I understand why merging ChangeLog had difficulties, because I changed something there. I can imagine why main.php (the file I changed) merged without problem, probably because that file was previously unchanged, so the merge was no problem. But what I don't understand is why the tbl_change.php caused problems. I didn't touch that file, so as far as I'm concerned, that file should have been correctly merged the previous time (commit before me). After manualy changing the tbl_change.php and ChangeLog file, I did this : git add ChangeLog git add tbl_change.php (because git status instructed me to) and then git commit git push This resulted in these two commits : Changed link to git repository on main page Merge branch 'QA_3_3' It then turned out I forgot to solve two conflicts in tbl_change.php (indicated by >>>>>> HEAD and <<<<<< QA_3_3). I changed this file and commited again : fix mistake in merge Merge branch 'master' of ssh://phpmyadmin.git.sourcefor... (the last commit happened automaticaly when I did a git pull, before git push, because Marc had pushed a commit in the meanwhile) So, I think everything in git is as it should be now. But I guess I made some mistakes, or there must be a way to avoid these kind of problems. (4 commits to change 2 lines of code seems a bit too much. ;) ) Everything went well until the merge part, so I wonder how you guys do it. Is it possible to only merge the changes in the last commit, and ignore all other files? Thanks for the help. Hi, I am Shreyas currently doing my M.S in Computer science from Indiana University Bloomington. I am LAMP developer for last 5 years and counting. I intend to participate in GSOC 2010. I would love to work on charts in server status page. I have been using phpmyadmin for last 5 years and this time i hope i get a chance to contribute to it. hello, I am a computer-science student.I have a strong background in c,c++,php,python and ajax.I am very much interested in ajaxifying the current phpmyadmin interface.I am giving links to some of my past works. 1. troika.dcetech.com (tech fest website fully in ajax) 2. mist10.dcetech.com (online code breaking game fully in ajax) 3. repertoire.dcetech.com apart from that many minor projects. i am web assistant at ACM's crossroad magazine and council member at mozdev.org. I am admin at dcetech.com(fully phpbb) i would like to carry forward this idea of ajaxifying the UI.We can use jquery to simplify the code and different functions to display alerts and ajax loaders etc.Looking forward for Lem9's feedback.
